80th Annual Academy Awards

Sat up all night watching the Oscars. Bad screen time for us in Sweden.
The host, John Stewart, was hilarious, perfect! He's brilliant. Many political jokes, one I quite enjoyed about the movies made about the war in Iraq, "DO NOT REMOVE THE MOVIES FROM THE CINEMAS, WE CANNOT LET THE AUDIENCE WIN!" (what does it sound like?) And also: "Atonement catches the raw sexuality of Yom Kippur" That one was just fucking random and i was laughing my ass off. Other jokes was about the election ("have you decided which democrat to vote for?") and that Barack Hussein Obama (which rhymes with "Usama") has his name against him, but that is nothing compared to a politician called "Gaydolf Titler" (lmao) who "had some good ideas, but you know, he had his name against him".
"And the baby goes to..." Talk of the town was the writers strike is finally over (thanks to the Oscars?) and Hollywood pregnancy (Cate Blanchett and Jessica Alba among others).
Javier Bardem got best actor in a supporting role, loved it even though I haven't seen "No country for old men" yet. Going to as soon as possible cause it seems like a really good movie. Tilda Swinton as best actress in a supporting role, don't have much to say except her dress was hideous and she always looks so scary with her paleness and pointyness. Her speech was one of the best though, loved what she said about the Oscar statuette having the same buttocks as her USA manager.
Winner in Art Direction was Sweeney Todd, very fucking well earned. Hated that Sweeney didn't get for Costume Design aswell, cause they really deserved it.
Marion Cotillard got Best Actress in a leading role, amazing, she really deserved it. Had a broad smile on my face. She also had the most innovative, beautiful and personal dress, designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. Another dress I liked was Anne Hathaway's, she looked gorgeous in a red empire-style dress with one shoulder bare and roses climbing over the other. Made me think a little too much of Kate Winslet's dress a few years ago (also red with rose drape).
Both Johnny Depp and Viggo Mortensen (gotta see Eastern Promises, seems like a kickass movie, loved the clips) were nominated for actor in a leading role, and both really really deserved to win in my eyes. But neither did. Shameful really. If Johnny doesnt win soon I'm going nuts. And Viggo should get an Honorary just for his brilliance as Aragorn. Daniel Day Lewis has already won that same cathegory, gah! Viggo had a hideous beard, but Johnny was the cutest ever, looking really shy in his long, slightly curled hair and his glasses.
Tiresome with all the "booring" awards, felt like fillers.
So Close nominated for Original Song!! And two other Enchanted songs. Was so fucking disappointed when the boring Irish song won, yeh sure it was a cutie love story but still. I like Enchanted better.
There was a beautiful In Memoriam. Who stood out among all the recently dead legends, and also the last one to be memorated: Heath Ledger. I'm still not getting he is gone.
Atonement got best score - I was like YESSSS!! That movie has an amazing score, so it was really well deserved.
Diablo Cody (former stripper, today THE it-girl of Hollywood) got Best Original Screenplay for "Juno" - no surprise. Liked her tattoo.
No country for old men got both Directing and Best Picture. Really have to see that movie.
The things I haven't mentioned was prolly just uninteresting.
Overall it was a nice event. People seemed genuinely awestruck when they went up there, many were lost for words. Marion Cotillard's speech was so cute:
"Oh -- thank you so much. Olivier, what you did to me, Maestro Olivier Dahan, you rocked my life. You truly rocked my life. Thank you so much to Picturehouse for your passion, members of the Academy, thank you so, so much. And -- wow. Well, I'm speechless now. I -- I -- well, I -- thank you life, thank you love, and it is true, there is some angels in this city. Thank you so, so much."
I just adore the fact that there weren't any real blockbusters, it was more critically acclaimed movies, and all movies seem to be of really high quality. So now I have a list of movies to see (and see again).
But first: catch up on some sleep.
